The Experience

Alaska's Interior on Horseback

There is simply no better way to move through the Alaskan wilderness than on the back of a horse. No engine noise, no mechanical barrier between you and the land — just the sound of hooves on soft earth, the smell of spruce, and a view that clears the mind like nothing else.

Our trail horses are experienced in Alaska terrain — they're steady on uneven ground, calm around moose (usually), and selected to match the experience level of each rider. No previous riding experience is needed for our guided 1-hour ride.

All trail rides include a pre-ride safety briefing, mounting assistance, and a guide for the entire duration. Maximum group size is 2 riders per guide to keep the experience personal.

When Can I Ride?

Trails are available most of the year. We suspend trail rides during the coldest months (typically January–February) when temperatures drop below -20°F consistently. Light snowpack winter rides are a magical Alaska experience we offer when conditions allow.

🌨 Winter Rides (December–March)

When trail conditions are safe (packed snow, mild temperatures above -15°F on-site), we offer winter trail rides — a truly unique Alaska experience. Riders are fitted with appropriate cold-weather gear and layering guidance. Contact us to check current winter trail status.

☀ Midnight Sun Rides (June–July)

Take advantage of Alaska's midnight sun with an evening ride at 9pm or later. The light at this hour is something photographers call "the golden hour" — but in Alaska, it lasts for hours. One of our most requested experiences in summer.

Before You Ride

Trail Ride FAQs

Long pants (jeans or riding tights), boots with a small heel (no sneakers), and layers appropriate for the weather. In Alaska, always bring a wind layer even in summer — it can get breezy on the ridge. We provide helmets. For winter rides, we'll give you specific cold-weather layering guidance when you book.
The weight limit for trail rides is 230 lbs for rider comfort and horse welfare. This is a standard limit for guided trail programs throughout Alaska. Please reach out if you have questions — we will always do our best to accommodate and have a frank, respectful conversation.
No experience is necessary for the 1-hour intro ride. The guide will provide a brief orientation covering how to sit, steer, stop, and communicate with the horse — everything you need in about 10 minutes. The trail horses are safe, steady, and patient with newcomers.
A deposit of 50% is required to hold your booking. The balance is due on the day of the ride. Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance receive a full refund or reschedule credit. Within 48 hours, the deposit is forfeited unless weather causes our cancellation (in which case you receive a full credit). Weather cancellations by the ranch are always notified by 7am on the day of the ride.
Yes, with advance arrangement. Trail access with your own horse requires a guided escort on our first time together (to ensure horse and trail compatibility) and a current negative Coggins test. Contact us to discuss the details and a reduced trail-only rate.
